Service Description

Electrolysis is a method of permanently removing individual hairs from the face or body. The only form of permanent hair removal approved by the FDA, medical electrolysis devices destroy the growth center of the hair with chemical (Galvanic current) or heat energy (Thermolysis). After a very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle, the hair is removed with tweezers. In Electrolysis at Magnificent Spa, we use Thermolysis. Most areas of the body can be treated with Electrolysis, including the eyebrows, ears, face, abdomen, thighs, breasts, legs and back. There are generally no permanent side effects, but sometimes a temporary, slight reddening of the skin may occur. Please note that Electrolysis does involve a series of treatments. If the hair in the area being treated has been tweezed for years, it will require more treatments since the hair is coarse and distorted. If the hair being treated has not been tweezed, it will require less treatments due to the soft texture and shallow roots. How the Electrolysis Procedure Works Electrolysis is a medically approved method of permanent hair removal. Only actively growing hairs and follicles are affected, several treatments are necessary. The treatment works on actively growing hairs and follicles, not any of those that are dormant. Possible risks associated with this treatment include but are not limited to: Redness or Swelling – may be seen, depending upon the amount of current needed to remove your individual texture of hair and your body reaction. This is temporary and will usually disappear within a short period of time, after your treatment. Applying ice or a cold compress to the treated area will help reduce the swelling faster. Pinpoint Scabs – may be observed occasionally. Pinpoint scabs are a normal part of the healing process. It usually takes 2-3 days for the scabs to develop, depending on your normal healing process. DO NOT pick, scratch, exfoliate or remove scabs, as this may cause scarring. Scabs will fall off naturally. Bruising– may occasionally be noted as a result of a small capillary being punctured by a probe, thus causing a bruise. The normal healing process will absorb the bruise and this is dependent on how quickly your body heals. The goal of the Electrolysis procedure is improvement in the appearance of unwanted hair.
